A tragedy occurred in Kano State early Thursday morning when Yahaya Isma’il Idris, an officer with the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), was killed after he was allegedly shoved out of a moving truck while performing his regular duties.
In a post on his official 𝕏 account, counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the incident. He stated that the 35-year-old officer was on night patrol along Maiduguri Road at 4:30 a.m. when he pulled over a truck for a routine check.
The driver of the truck, which had the license plate BWR 457 XC, was 25-year-old Yakubu Abdulsalam of Fika LGA in Yobe State. The car also carried two other people, Sagir Yusuf, 21, from Bichi LGA in Kano, and Tunde Momodu, 31, from Edo State.
Idris reportedly requested a waybill from the driver that detailed the items being transported.
The KAROTA official boarded the car to conduct more investigation after the driver was unable to show the document. But the driver allegedly drove off shortly after.
As the vehicle approached the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange flyover, the suspects reportedly pushed Idris out of the moving truck,” Makama wrote.
The impact left Idris with critical injuries. He was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
According to police sources, all three individuals in the vehicle have been apprehended. “Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the sources confirmed.
