The Kwara State main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has forcefully condemned the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWASUBEB), Professor Raheem Adaramaja, for allegedly humiliating teachers. During a school inspection, Adaramaja reportedly forced teachers, including the Vice Principal, to sweep the premises in the presence of students, an action the PDP denounced as a “severe abuse of office” and a public degradation of dedicated professionals. The party demanded that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq publicly condemn and sanction the SUBEB Chairman and called for an unreserved public apology from Adaramaja to the entire teaching community. Supporting the teachers, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ilorin East branch, also condemned the “unacceptable” humiliation, assuring its members that the state leadership is working to protect their dignity and demand an apology.
Separately, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar issued a strong statement titled “A Nation Gripped in the Throes of Fear,” accusing President Bola Tinubu’s government of fostering a “rising wave of repression and intimidation” that is fast turning Nigeria into a “police state.” Atiku condemned the administration for harassing citizens and journalists, weaponizing the Cyberstalking Act as a “modern tool of tyranny,” and undermining democracy by disobeying court orders and turning legislative institutions into “mere rubber stamps.” He framed the 2027 general election as a crucial contest between the “Tinubu hegemony and the will of the Nigerian people.” This warning comes amidst the recent arrest of activists like Omoyele Sowore over protests.
Finally, the Kano State Ministry of Education has dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding the recruitment of 3,917 teachers, describing the claims as false and baseless. The Ministry advised the public to rely solely on official communication channels, as no such program has been initiated. In a related development, the Yobe State Association of Volunteer Teachers has accused the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) of sidelining its members in the recent recruitment of 948 teachers, amidst allegations that the process favored politicians over merit. The Association demanded the public release of the official list of recruited volunteer teachers to verify the Executive Chairman’s claim that volunteers received a “lion’s share.”
