The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed claims by former Sokoto State governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, that a nationwide consensus is underway to prevent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from seeking reelection in 2027.
Tambuwal, who represents the Sokoto South Senatorial District, stated in a television interview that the campaign to unseat Tinubu was a national effort, not a northern agenda. In a statement issued on Sunday, Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo described the senator’s remarks as “misleading and unfounded,” emphasizing that the prevailing sentiment across the country is in favor of supporting good governance and the administration’s reforms.
What is emerging throughout Nigeria is a consensus to support effective governance rather than to oppose Tinubu. Nigerians will not hesitate to extend their mandate for a leader who has proven to be capable and visionary when 2027 arrives, Oladejo stated.
He refuted opposition accusations of imposition by pointing out that Tinubu was freely elected in 2023 by Nigerians from all backgrounds and regions.
“The people of Nigeria, representing all religions, ethnic groups, and geopolitical zones, elected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through a democratic process; he was not forced upon them. In contrast to the opposition’s clamor, his administration has gotten right into things,” he continued.
