Methodist Bishop of Item Diocese, Abia State, Rt. Rev. Ikechukwu Emezi Nkulo, urged the Federal government and state governors to urgently activate employment mechanisms for youths. Speaking Sunday in Umuahia, Nkulo stated that gainful youth employment would address rising banditry, unknown gunmen, and kidnappings plaguing Nigerian communities. The Bishop spoke at the Vision Africa Radio talent show 2025 in Umuahia. He asserted that focusing the large youth population on positive activities would diffuse the country’s security-driven tension. Nkulo expressed concern over the severe economic hardship faced by poor Nigerians, blaming this on leaders’ “selfishness and aggrandizement.” He stated, “Governance is not all about aggrandizement, the populace need to be employed and that should be done urgently to diffuse tension.” He added that unemployed youths are easily drawn to “restive and nefarious activities,” which explains the current insecurity issues. Earlier, Vision Africa President Archbishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha said the yearly Icons radio talent show aims to produce future leaders, create employment, and build peace in Nigeria.
