Jos, the capital of Plateau State, is a town rich in culture, kindness, and serenity and is not a war zone, according to Mr. Ehi Barnabas-Henry, assistant general secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association.
After the NBA Section on Legal Practice Conference was successfully hosted in Jos, Barnabas-Henry made this claim on Tuesday in Abuja.
He told reporters that although persuading lawyers to attend the conference was a monumental undertaking, they eventually flocked to Jos in large numbers thanks to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang’s pledge of security.
“They experienced firsthand the friendliness, beauty, culture, and tranquility of Jos that are frequently overlooked by the media,” he remarked.
He said that the governor made sure that security was tightened throughout the state and, astonishingly, that six busses were available to safely convey more than 100 registered delegates from Abuja to Jos.
“The governor went above and beyond to support the conference, as showcasing Plateau’s rich culture and economic potential to the world is his passion,” he said.
Additionally, according to the assistant general secretary, Mr. Paul Harris Ogbole, SAN, the chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, had demanded that Nigerians be informed the real Jos narrative prior to the conference.
“He reminded us of the power of the media and said we must tell the true story of Jos and so, we doubled our efforts, pushing out authentic messages that reflected the peace, beauty, and hospitality of Jos.
“And guess what? Lawyers from across Nigeria arrived in Jos, and for four unforgettable days, we experienced something truly special,” he said.
Barnabas-Henry said that although negative news travelled fast, the reality on the ground could be vastly different adding that it was important to always verify facts before forming opinions.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 2025 NBA-SLP conference was held in Jos from April 24 to April 27 with the theme: “Uncommon challenges in a rapidly changing legal environment.’’
Participants at the conference explored the contemporary challenges evolving in the legal environment.
They looked at the impact of global interconnectedness on legal systems, the growing demand for specialised legal services and provided insights into navigating the legal frontiers.
