In response to criticism, the Nigerian government has started paying contractors for projects that are located within federal government ministries, departments, and agencies.
This was revealed in an exclusive interview with BASEMEDIA on Monday by Bawa Mokwa, the spokesperson for the federation’s Office of the Accountant General.
This follows over a year of contractors managing federal government projects in MDAs not being paid.
Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi of the Bauchi Senatorial District expressed concern in June 2025 about the failure to pay federal government contractors since 2024.
The Nigerian government was recently urged to investigate payments owed to its contractors since last year by Obi Aguocha, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation.
Mokwa stated that a settlement has been reached between the federal government and the impacted contractors when BASEMEDIA contacted the OAGF for an update on the situation.
