The Benue State House of Assembly has approved a bill establishing the Benue State College of Nursing Sciences. The approval came during Thursday’s plenary session.
The bill was championed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Thomas Dugeri (APC/Kwande West), who highlighted the significance of the proposed institution. He called on lawmakers to hasten its passage to secure accreditation, noting the strong public backing for the initiative.
While reviewing the bill clause by clause, Speaker Rt. Hon Alfred Emberga explained that the college would run multiple campuses across the state. He stressed that the provost must be a qualified nurse with a Master’s Degree in Nursing to maintain high academic and professional standards. The provost’s tenure will last four years, with the option of renewal for another four years depending on performance and institutional requirements.
The Speaker instructed the Clerk of the House, Dr. Bem Mela, to conduct the third and final reading of the bill. Once completed, he announced that the bill had officially been passed.
