The contractor for Senator Gbenga Daniel’s constituency project on Paddy Arikawe Oye Igbimo road in Sagamu, Ogun State, Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited, has been instructed by the state government to make significant revisions to the engineering designs and guarantee transparency in all submissions to the state government. This comes after the contractor was ordered to follow due process after breaking the law by starting work on the state road without permission and then submitting a bill of quantities to the state government on Monday.
The state government claims that the contractor’s design is currently unacceptable because it does not meet the necessary standards.
This decision was communicated by the government to the company’s managing director in a letter dated September 22, 2025, signed by Engr. Dr. Yusuf I. O., Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works.
The Ogun State Ministry of Works noted in the letter that although the road in question is three kilometers long overall, the contractor did not indicate which section of the road the 260 meters authorized for construction would cover.
Records that are currently available indicate that Daniel’s proposed 3-kilometer road project is broken up into four phases, with only the first phase—which spans 260 meters—having received approval. Furthermore, of the three phases, only phase 2, which includes a 740-meter concrete road and drainage, is pending federal approval; phases 3 and 4, which each have a 1 km concrete road and drainage, are only suggestions.
The government said that, among other things, the concrete binding should be of Grade 20, and the concrete grade for the deck, walks, and reinforced concrete base must be at least Grade 25, with a high yield tensile strength of at least 460 N/mm². The government also praised the contractor’s final decision to seek Ogun State Government approval for the project.
