Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, has pledged to give the team’s players significant rewards if they defeat Arsenal on Wednesday to overcome their first-leg deficit in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Real Madrid now faces a difficult task in the rematch, which will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, following a crushing 3-0 loss in the first leg of the 2024–2025 UEFA Champions League encounter.
After Real Madrid’s close 1-0 La Liga victory over Alaves, Perez paid a surprise visit to the team’s locker room in an attempt to boost morale and create a sense of urgency.
This meeting was more than just a typical motivational speech; it demonstrated Perez’s dedication to inspiring the team and reaffirming their faith in a possible victory over the Premier League team.
He reportedly spoke with Kylian Mbappe, the team’s best player, face-to-face during his visit. During his impassioned speech, Perez highlighted the benefits that would be theirs if they were to advance to the semifinals.
In an apparent attempt to motivate the players to step up and compete for a spot in the tournament’s next round, he stated, “If you win and reach the semi-finals, you’ll receive a significant financial bonus from the club,” according to Sport.
