In an homage to the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, called him a giant in thought and deed whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
The Sultan expressed his profound sadness over the monarch’s death, saying it had left a huge hole in the traditional leadership landscape, in a condolence message sent Monday and signed by Alhaji Sai’idu Maccido, the Secretary to the Sultanate Council.
“This great monarch’s passing leaves a void that will be felt throughout the nation.” In both thought and deed, he was a kind giant, the Sultan declared.
The Sultan commended Oba Olakulehin’s dedication to the welfare of his people and the advancement of Ibadanland, despite the fact that he was only in power for a single year.
He said, “Despite only holding the throne for a year, his dedication to development and his commitment to his people were truly commendable.”
In addition to highlighting Oba Olakulehin’s efforts to peace and unity, the Sultan—who also holds the position of Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria (NTRCN)—described him as a monarch who prioritized the good of the country over his own interests.
He prayed for the people of Oyo State, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the royal family.
“May God give the good people of Ibadan Land and their families the strength to endure this irreversible loss.” “Amen,” he said.
