To pay pension arrears, Governor Yusuf releases an additional ₦6 billion.

An additional ₦6 billion has been authorized by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to pay out retirement benefits, including death benefits and gratuities, that are still owed to retired government servants and the families of state employees who have passed away.

Ibrahim Adam, the governor’s Special Adviser on Information, revealed this on Tuesday in a post on his verified Facebook page.

Adam clarified that Governor Yusuf’s ongoing efforts to pay off the unpaid pension debts from the previous administration, which was led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, including the current payment.

Adam added, “This is on top of the 21 billion naira that His Excellency has already paid out in gratuity and the 48.6 billion naira in death benefit liabilities that he inherited from Ganduje’s administration (2016–2023).”

He went on to say that since Governor Yusuf took office in 2023, this is the fourth round of such payments.
