The protracted negotiations regarding Viktor Gyökeres’ valuation have caused the proposed transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal to halt.
The Swedish striker has been given priority over Benjamin Šeško by Arsenal in their ongoing summer center-forward search. It is believed that Gyökeres and the North London club have reached an agreement on a five-year contract. Gyökeres has been waiting for the two clubs to settle their differences on the transfer fee.
However, new reports indicate that negotiations have come to a standstill and that the move is now in danger of failing.
Record claims that since the weekend, talks have not advanced since both teams are firmly committed to their respective stances over the player’s price.
According to reports, Gyökeres thinks he has a gentleman’s agreement that permits him to depart for €60 million plus an extra €10 million in bonuses (£51.7 million plus £8.6 million). However, it seems that sport contests this view.
Sporting is now demanding a set €70 million (£60.4 million), rejecting any performance-based elements, despite Arsenal reportedly putting forth an offer of €65 million plus €15 million in add-ons (£56 million plus £12.9 million).
Representatives from Arsenal are said to have returned to London from Lisbon without a deal after the impasse.
