Two arrested for attacking soldiers, policemen in Anambra.

Two suspects have been taken into custody by the Anambra State Police Command in connection with an assault on law enforcement and military personnel in Enugwu-Agu Village, Oba Ofemili, Awka North Local Government Area.

An Army operating vehicle was also set on fire at a community checkpoint as a result of the alleged April 13, 2025, attack on the operatives.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated in a news release today that the suspects were taken into custody on June 2 after the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, staff conducted a follow-up investigation.

According to Ikenga, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the state commissioner of police, called the attack an assault on the nation’s soul and a test of the security forces’ will.

In a thorough investigation into an attack on police and military personnel that documented the burning of an Army operational vehicle in Enugwu-Agu Village, Oba Ofemili, Awka North LGA, at approximately 9.45 am on June 2, 2025, operations of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu detained two suspects who were positively linked to the upsetting incident, he stated.

The two suspects—Jindo Onyeka, age 32, and Uche Egwu, age 35—confessed their involvement in the crime and offered helpful information about other participants.

“The unsettling event took place on April 13, 2025, when a few armed individuals attacked security personnel and community members without cause.”

The police boss described the attack on the police as a serious and intentional act to test the will of the security agencies and as an attack on the soul of a nation, and he praised the security personnel’s professionalism and bravery in handling the situation, saying that no casualties were reported.

The CP instructed the agents to broaden the area of their inquiry in order to potentially apprehend additional fugitive suspects.

He also emphasized that in order to protect those who defend the country, everyone must work together.
