The government of Akwa Ibom State has issued a wanted list for two doctors who left their positions after eight years of training.
Speaking at a press conference in Uyo on Monday, state Commissioner for Health Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John identified the physicians as state Ministry of Health employees Dr. Mfonobong George Bassey, a Consultant Hematologist, and Dr. Uduakabasi Ita, a Consultant Radiologist.
In order to pay for their training, the state government paid for the two doctors’ departure from their duty post for better opportunities, which the commissioner bemoaned.
“The state government has stated time and time again that any medical personnel it trains must serve the state to pay for the training before they can depart for better opportunities,” he said.
According to the commissioner, the doctors were given two choices by the state government: they could return to their duty positions in the state civil service or the state government could reimburse them for all of the money they had spent on their training.
They are wanted by the Ministry of Health. We’ll halt their pay and follow them until we locate them. We will go to the country’s Medical and Dental Council and stop them wherever they go.
They should notify the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health right away, and we won’t be held responsible once the Medical and Dental Council starts meeting.
“We ask that their families contact them to report to the ministry of health right away, as they have not been invited and there is no problem,” he said.
According to the Commissioner for Health, all medical officers who have received training from the state government must now complete the predetermined number of years in the state before being permitted to leave.
