Unbeaten D’Tigers edge Cameroon 99-90 to win AfroBasket Group B

The D’Tigers defeated the fiercely contested Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 99-90 in Sunday’s Group B final in the ongoing FIBA AfroBasket Championship at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Kilamba, Angola, to secure a perfect group-stage record.

The D’Tigers secured a direct route to the quarterfinals on August 20 with the narrow victory, avoiding qualification placement.

Martins Igbannu scored ten, Christian Mekowulu and Ike Nwamu each contributed twelve, and Caleb Agada scored fifteen. Stan Okoye finished with fourteen.Fabien Ateba led Cameroon with 19 points, while Yves Missi came in second with 18. Samir Gbetkom scored 13 points, and Jeremiah Hill scored 16 before leaving the game due to a knee injury.

After a tough first-quarter battle between the two sides, the D’Tigers emerged victorious with 28–25 points. Mekowulu led Nigeria’s attack with six points, all of which came from three-point range, while Hill of Cameroon scored seven points.

The D’Tigers stepped up their game in the second quarter, defeating Cameroon 30–16. Mekowulu scored six more points, including a three, to make 4/5 from the arc after Agada scored 10 points, including a three early on.
