In partnership with the World Food Programme and Care Nigeria, the German government’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) plans to empower 6,389 households in Yobe State.
A collaborative effort, the Resilience and Social Cohesion (Peace) Project aims to rebuild livelihoods and restore vital services in order to promote long-term change in the state.
The Area Manager Care Nigeria, Abatcha Abubakar, disclosed this to newsmen at state level stakeholders’ inception meeting on resilience and social cohesion (peace) held in Damaturu, Yobe StateHe said the households would be coached and empowered with agric inputs, crops processing machinery and stipends to enhance their Livelihood.
He noted that the program was supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the German Government, in conjunction with World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF and Care Nigeria
He added that the project’s objectives were to improve 31,945 people’s economic standing and boost the income and productivity of 6,389 smallholder farmers and households along the agriculture value chain.
He stated that the project’s goal is to increase the dietary diversification and financial services accessibility of five wards in Jakusko LGAs by means of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs).
“We carry out crop production programs in which project participants are paired off and given resources to increase their self-sufficiency and resilience. In order to improve home finances, we also offer an Income Generating Activity (IGA). We create groups through IGAs and provide them with agro-processing equipment so they can make money outside of farming.
