Anderson Akaliro, the Abia State House of Assembly representative for Umuahia North, has formally written to his constituents to explain his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
In his message, Akaliro stated that he was joining forces with Governor Alex Otti and his Labour Party, LP, due to their “visionary leadership.”
As the sole APC lawmaker in the Abia State House of Assembly, Akaliro urged his supporters to embrace his defection as a sign of his commitment to them for a better future rather than viewing it as a betrayal of their mandate.
I never received an invitation to an official party meeting or event in the state during my tenure as steward.
“The deep-seated disunity was instead confirmed by repeated suspensions and counter-suspensions at the ward and local government levels,” he said.
He stated that his Umuahia North constituency stakeholders, political allies, and constituents had advised him to join the LP. I have made the decision to support the Labour Party and His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti’s progressive, people-focused, and visionary leadership.
“The collective desire to reposition Umuahia North at the center of development-driven, accountable, and people-focused governance is what is driving this decision, not individual ambition,” Akaliro stated.
