Wike provides FCT farmers with fertilizers at a discounted price.

Farmers in the Federal Capital Territory’s six area councils will receive a 50% fertilizer subsidy.

During the fertilizer distribution to farmers, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revealed this.

The minister gave farmers 550 metric tons of fertilizers on Thursday in Abuja, including urea gel, granular urea, NPK gel, and conventional NPK. On behalf of the minister, Wike’s chief of staff, Chidi Amadi, made the distribution.

This program demonstrates our unwavering dedication to agricultural revitalization, food security, and the well-being of our citizens. As the FAO has emphasized, food insecurity threatens dignity, stability, and peace.

“The FCTA has institutionalized this yearly support program to lower production costs and increase yields in light of this and in accordance with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This exercise was purposefully timed to coincide with the farming season so that farmers could obtain inputs at the most critical times, he said.

The fertilizers must reach the actual farmers who will increase food production and security in the area councils, so the Minister warned against rerouting them as the distribution got underway.

The Minister revealed that the FCT Administration will work with international organizations to improve agronomic practices, emphasizing that the distribution of fertilizer to farmers was insufficient. He revealed that the FCTA would work with the World Bank, the Leventis Foundation, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture to build capacity.
