In a commanding six-shot victory at the Women’s Irish Open, English amateur Lottie Woad recorded a four-under final-round score of 69 to win her maiden Ladies European Tour title.
Woad, however, will not earn any prize money because she is an amateur; Madelene Sagstrom, a four-time Solheim Cup champion from Sweden, will receive the 67,500 euro (£58,000) winner’s check for finishing second.
The top amateur in the world, Woad, took the lead in windy conditions on Friday, increased her lead to seven strokes in the third round on Saturday, and cruised home at Carton House on Sunday with six birdies and two bogeys. After Czech player Jana Melichova won the 2022 Czech Ladies Open, the 21-year-old became the first non-professional to win on the Ladies European Tour after breaking 70 in all four rounds. Woad, who tied for 10th place in the previous year’s Women’s Open and won the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur title, had a remarkably strong showing in County Kildare, carding just three bogeys in a week.
Overall, it seemed fairly comfortable, said to Woad, a member of the women’s golf team for England.
“I persevered and finished with some beautiful birdies, even though there were a couple situations at the beginning of the back nine that could have gone awry.
