As an associate of the IOC-recognized World Boxing Organization, the federation made clear in a statement to stakeholders that it is committed to following the International Federation’s laws and rules.
The federation is taking proactive measures to make clear the weight categories to be utilized for the Sports Festival in response to questions from a number of state coaches, notably Ismail Raji, head coach of the Niger State Boxing team.
Coach Raji made a good point about people being confused by the two different weight category charts, and he emphasized how crucial this information is as registration draws near.
With effect from January 1, 2025, there will be ten divisions for men from Flyweight (47–50 kg) to Super Heavyweight (90 kg+) and ten divisions for women from Light Flyweight (45–48 kg) to Heavyweight (80 kg+) in the revised weight categories.
In order to be ready for the Sports Festival, the federation also advises all participating states to get their new Blue Cards from the NBF Secretariat. To make sure that every boxer satisfies the revised specifications, this step is crucial.

There will be a maximum of 13 male and 12 female boxers per state, with one male boxer competing in each of the 13 men’s weight divisions and one female boxer competing in each of the 12 women’s divisions.
