Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate, has stated that he intends to make President Bola Tinubu the last bad leader Nigeria would have in addition to overthrowing him in 2027.
According to Adebayo, Nigerians have long lamented their poor leaders but have done nothing to improve the situation.
However, he boasted that all of it would end following the elections in 2027.
Regarding how he intends to accomplish that, Adebayo stated that the strategy is to alter politics as it has been practiced over time and how the majority of parties continue to approach it. In particular, he stated that Nigeria ought to quit engaging in money politics.
According to the former SDP presidential candidate, God would not send a good leader to Nigeria from above; instead, the people would have to make that decision by casting their votes, according to Naija News.
Prince Adebayo urged Nigerians to hold politicians to higher standards, warning that those who are unable to do so will be removed.
“If you pay attention to politicians, they will tell you that the current president is the issue. Then, anyone but Jonathan was involved. Then, oh, Buhari is the issue; he has no idea what he’s doing. Although Tinubu is currently the issue, I can assure you that my goal is to ensure that Tinubu is the final horrible president.
“How can you make sure of that? The politics will be altered by you. You will persuade Nigerians to support their nation’s politics and to avoid getting involved in politics. They will enter politics when it is conducted in a proper, moral, and lawful manner.
“There will be more talent involved, and the politics of money won’t be the main focus. Therefore, once that system is changed, it won’t matter if Tinubu steps down tomorrow; you can still plot to get rid of him, but you won’t need to. We need to change politics, and the first step in doing so is to alter our political party. Anyone who looks at the SDP can see that we have improved the party.
The message is going to the people. While we are doing awareness and talking, I don’t want Nigerians to sit at home and point fingers at the bad governors and say it’s caused by politicians. The mandate comes from the people, and once the people raise their bar, some politicians will respond to it and some will fall by the wayside.
“But, if you say, under this current system we are running now, you want to bring money, push money on me, and put me there; I’m not going to accept. We must change the politics, and that’s what we are trying to do.
“By God’s grace, we will not let Nigerian people down, and we are not going to follow those who have ruined the system before. Anyone is free to join the party, but we are for the people of Nigeria, we have no other objective, no other mission,” he said.
SDP Is The Platform
Adebayo boasted that SDP would provide the platform to birth a new Nigeria and therefore urged Nigerians to adopt the party to be able to correct the political ills in Nigeria.
“That is what the leadership of the SDP is working to achieve. If you speak to our national chairman, Shehu Gabam, our national secretary, Olu Ogunloye, and other leaders of the party, you’ll see that down our ladder and our organogram, we are reminding everyone who joins the party that they are welcome.But if you look at our manifesto, chapter two of the constitution, and the suffering of the masses, you can see that our policies are focused on solving those issues. Our goal is for the Nigerian people to embrace the party as a means of addressing the issues in our political system,” he said.
