In addition to former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has stated that a number of candidates are covertly considering its 2027 presidential ticket.
This was said by Okechukwu Osuoha, the party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, in an interview with Vanguard on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Osuoha, the party is presently involved in extensive internal discussions and negotiations to choose its final flagbearer.While the public is focused on the three candidates, Osuoha stated that other potential candidates throughout the South are already holding private talks with stakeholders to position themselves. He added that the party’s top priority right now is holding its national convention to elect new officers who will lead the PDP for the next four years. “Those names you mentioned are still speculations. Right now, what is paramount in the party is negotiations and discussions, with people trying to identify who will be the most credible candidate,” Osuoha said.
“During that time, we will select the candidates who will run. To ensure openness and demonstrate that we live up to our rhetoric of democracy, the party will seek to hold a free and fair primary, he said.
This comes after Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro mentioned Makinde, Jonathan, and Obi as candidates.
As negotiations continue, the senator from Benue South added that additional eligible candidates from the South may still enter the race.
