Ezekiel Awulu Adaji’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has officially distanced itself from the new political coalition supported by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and warned members not to join the outfit.
The party rejected the collaboration as a ruse by “opportunistic politicians” seeking to deceive PDP followers by erroneously associating the movement with the party, according to a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by State Secretary Comrade Dan Nyikwagh.
“This coalition is not associated with the PDP in Benue State. The statement said, “We implore our members to stick with us and not be duped by those who left the party but are now using the party name to gain attention.”
The coalition’s main players were also chastised by the party for their alleged political inaction during past elections and party events, only to reappearance to solicit support by taking advantage of the PDP’s existing clout.
The statement emphasized, “If they are really popular, let them run on their own track record, not by hiding behind our party’s legacy.”
The Benue PDP reaffirmed its faith in Chief Samuel Ortom’s leadership, saying the former governor is still totally dedicated to the party and is actively trying to reposition it for the 2027 elections.
The party advised its members to stick with the PDP and reject offers to join the Atiku-led coalition.
