The opposition party coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, and others has been rejected by the African Democratic Congress Youth Wing.
At a meeting of the party’s youth branch on Thursday, ADC spokesperson Musa Matara revealed.
Atiku, Amaechi, David Mark, and others endorsed ADC as the opposition coalition on Wednesday in an attempt to depose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
At the ceremony, the opposition alliance, led by Aregbesola as secretary and David Mark as interim chairman, took over from a faction of the party led by Raph Nwosu.
In response, Matara stated that a coalition of what he called “old people” who have ruined Nigeria in the past could not be trusted with the party’s structure.
He asserts that the youths and members of the ADC will not let their party to be taken over in the name of the opposition coalition.
He criticized Raph Nwosu’s assertions that every party executive had quit their jobs.
In the past, the Nigerian administration was ruined by the opposition coalition.
These politicians are aging and lack a clear philosophy. The ADC is an ideological party.
“We don’t want the party to be taken over by new members.
“Who appointed the Secretary, the acting national chairman, and others? Which committee is it—the National Working Committee or the National Executive?
“ADC is still our only party; we don’t have any other parties.
“They are welcome to join us, but they must not take over the celebration,” he said.
According to the DAILY POST, Dumebi Kachikwu, the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, had stated that the appointment of David Mark as the party’s factional interim national chairman is a disservice to Nigerians.
He went on to say that the opposition coalition’s goal was to give Atiku control in 2027.
