Fifty students who had been abducted from a Niger Catholic school reportedly escaped and have since rejoined their families. The initial abduction occurred on November 21, 2025, when armed bandits reportedly took 303 students and 12 teachers, totaling 315 people. The escape of the 50 students happened between Friday and Saturday, and they were unable to return to the school afterward. This update was provided by the state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and proprietor of the school, Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, via a statement from his Media Aide, Daniel Atori. Following the escape and reunion, the CAN chairman stated that there are now 251 primary pupils, 14 secondary students, and 12 teachers still being held by the abductors. Specifically, out of the school’s total of 430 primary pupils, 377 were boarders. Aside from the 50 who escaped, 141 pupils were not abducted. This brings the current total of those still held to 236 pupils, 3 children of staff members, and 14 secondary students, plus the 12 staff members, totaling 265 people still with the abductors. The cleric urged everyone to remain calm and prayerful, assuring that collaboration with security operatives, community leaders, and government authorities is ongoing for the safe and quick return of all abductees.
