FG launches N50bn Series 3 Green Bond to fund climate initiatives

The Debt Management Office (DMO) has launched the bidding process for the third sovereign green bond, providing investors with an opportunity to invest in N50 billion aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and climate action initiatives in Nigeria.

With this third issuance, green bonds are making a comeback six years after the second tranche of N15 billion was released in 2019.

Speaking at the launch, the Director General of the Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha, emphasised the importance of the bond, describing it as a response to the increasing climate change

Everyone is aware that the environment has not only changed but continues to change; we know about the climate, and it’s difficult to dispute. Therefore, even if some people were previously in denial, it’s now extremely challenging to deny the existence of climate change and that, without action, the consequences for humans and our entire environment—be it the waters, livestock, or anything else—are significant,” she said.
