The Lagos State Government has declared that planning approvals for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project corridor will be immediately suspended.
Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Alausa, revealed this in a statement released on Monday.
Olumide claims that the choice was made in order to address how the coastal highway project will affect the state’s current and future frameworks for physical growth.
He noted that the project had already affected the recently concluded Ode-Omi Action Area Plan, as well as the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan and the Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan, both of which are still in development.
“As a result of the effects of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road on our Development Plans, it is germane to review the situation on ground and align it with the Development Plans to forestall any further distortion now or in the future. In this connection, it is equally important to temporarily suspend Planning Approvals in the axis until further notice,” he said.
Until further notice, the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, or LASPPPA, has been ordered to implement the suspension.
The state government’s dedication to preserving a well-planned, inclusive, livable, and sustainable built environment was emphasized by Olumide.
“Once planning considerations are properly aligned, Lagos remains positioned to fully benefit from the inter-state Coastal Highway,” he added.
