Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, promised to immortalize Christian Chukwu, the late Nigerian football player and coach. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the former coach of the Enugu Rangers and Super Eagles passed away on Saturday at the age of 74 at the Niger Foundation hospital in Enugu. When he visited Chukwu’s family on Thursday in Enugu to offer condolences, he told them they were not alone and called the late football player, also known as Chairman, a legend who inspired millions of young people and served his country without reservation.
According to Mbah, his passing completely saddened the people and government of his home state of Enugu.
“We have come here to commiserate with the family and also to express our devastation,” Mbah told reporters after comforting the family and signing a register of condolence.He also prayed for the peaceful rest of Chukwu’s soul and fortitude on the part of his family to bear the irreversible loss. “His death is not just a loss to the family alone; it is a loss to all of us, particularly the government and the people of Enugu State.” As you are aware, our beloved brother and legend, Christian Chukwu, is a household name who inspires many young people and represents many values when it comes to sport globally. “We are here to assure the family that this loss is not just theirs, this is our collective loss; that we are going to be with them all through this period of grief,” he said.The governor was accompanied by Mr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, and Mr. Uchenna Ugwu, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly.
