In the continuing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, the Federal Government has concluded its case.
Kanu is on trial for both treason and terrorism.
Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, the Federal Government’s counsel, said on Thursday that the prosecution had concluded its case.
This came after Kanu’s attorney, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, led the fifth prosecution witness, PW-5, who was designated as EEE for security reasons, in evidence and cross-examined him before Federal High Court Judge James Omotosho in Abuja.
After calling five witnesses during the trial, Awomolo told the court that the prosecution was certain the government had adequately fulfilled the need to close its case based on the mountain of evidence presented, including the broadcast of the IPOB leader’s activities.
He declared, “Therefore, I close the case.”
Following the announcement, Kanu Agabi, the principal defense attorney, informed the court that they will choose to file a no-case submission in due course.
