Gunmen have assaulted Awi village, a Fulani/Hausa settlement close to Omu-Aran in Kwara State, and taken three Fulani women hostage.
Danbare Sarki Fulani, a local community leader, reported the attack, which took place at around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, disclosed this on Monday in a post on his verified X handle.
He claims that during the raid, the attackers fired at random before removing the three women.
Halimi Kadiri, Gaaje Yusuf, and nursing mother Maria Isah have been identified as the victims. According to Makama, they are all members of the Fulani Bororo ethnic group.
A combined team of local vigilantes and security personnel was sent to the scene after the event was reported at around 10:00 a.m.
They started looking for the casualties right away in the surrounding trees.
“A coordinated search-and-rescue operation was also launched by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) in Omu-Aran, in conjunction with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from neighboring communities and vigilante groups,” the post said.
Police sources told the public that measures are being taken to rescue the women and bring tranquility back to the region, adding that the inquiry is still ongoing.
