According to Senator Sunday Karimi of Kogi West, the recent dismantling of criminal networks in Kogi West was made possible by the collaboration of the Joint Task Force, DSS, and the Department of State Services.
Karimi praised the DSS for working with the JTF and vigilantes to eradicate criminal groups and kidnappers from his senatorial district.
The legislator told reporters in Abuja that the increase in kidnappings may be politically driven criminal activity aimed at destabilizing his region.
However, the congressman emphasized that the “effectiveness of vigilantes rests on actionable intelligence provided by the DSS” and stated that the ongoing operations are necessary to “achieving lasting security.”
In order to “ensure strategic synergy between the security organizations and local vigilantes nationwide,” he praised the work of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, or NSA.
Additionally, he demanded legislation that would enable President Bola Tinubu to establish forest guards.
The senator emphasized the necessity of a coordinated strategy to protect Kogi West and restated his plea for ongoing collaboration among all security agencies.
Karimi’s comments are in line with recent declarations made by Kogi State’s security leadership, such as Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd.), Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, who has pledged to eradicate abduction and banditry from the state’s forests.
Omodara urged citizens to provide timely intelligence to support local security efforts and emphasized the importance of taking strategic steps to strengthen border security and improve community-based vigilance.
Following allegations of more than 30 kidnappings in the district in a single week—a problem he previously referred to as a “coordinated assault on peace”—the public’s need for swift response is reflected in his advocacy.
