Breaking: Dewan steps down, and Nanloong becomes the new Plateau Assembly Speaker

In the Plateau State House of Assembly, Nanloong Daniel (APC), who represents Mikang Constituency, has been elected as the next Speaker.

The development came after former Speaker Gabriel Dewan (YPP) resigned.

According to the DAILY POST, the election was conducted during an emergency meeting inside the makeshift Assembly Complex in Jos’s Old Government House.

Colleagues overwhelmingly selected Nanloong Daniel, a previous majority leader in the 9th Assembly, to serve as the Assembly’s leader.

According to information obtained by DAILY POST, the leadership transition followed a private meeting between former Speaker Gabriel Dewan, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and other lawmakers.

Additionally, it was learned that the purpose of the meeting was to try to resolve the state’s persistent political difficulties.

Deputy Speaker Gwotta Ajang oversaw the emergency session and helped to ease the changeover.

As the sole representative of his party in the Assembly, Dewan is a member of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

According to sources, Dewan’s departure is a component of a larger initiative to stabilize the state’s political environment.

As the DAILYPOST remembers, an Abuja Appeal Court ruling stated that the PDP had no organization prior to the general elections in 2023, leading to the removal of 16 of its elected members from the Assembly.
