Peter Obi, a former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has stated that he chose to run for a single four-year term in 2027 in order to uphold the sanctity of zoning.
This was in response to Obi’s statement that, despite not being included in the Nigerian constitution, zoning has stabilized the country’s politics.
In an interview with Politics Today on Channels Television, Obi stated that any real and committed leader can make an effect in four years.
“One term is sufficient to demonstrate that good governance is achievable, and if they can have a detrimental effect on us for only two years, why won’t someone accomplish a lot in four years?” he added.
“It’s also to honor the gentleman’s zoning agreement, which, although not being in our constitution, has been a stabilizing force.
“I don’t require any additional time beyond four years.” I’ll demonstrate the path of sound governance. The most damage has occurred in the last two years.
“It can be positively changed in two years. People want to wake up and see a kind and caring president.
Obi recently declared that he will only run for one term before handing over.
