Abayomi Arabambi, the Labour Party’s national publicity secretary, revealed that the party will call a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) to suggest that Peter Obi, its previous presidential candidate, be expelled.
Arabambi clarified during Tuesday’s Channels Morning Brief that Obi, who had already been suspended, then engaged in actions the party characterized as anti-party.
“You cannot remain a member of one political party while joining another. “He is aware that simultaneously belonging to two political parties is unconstitutional,” Arabambi stated.
“They have been successful in attracting him to their side, and he will stay there.”
In accordance with the Labour Party constitution and the custom of the majority of political parties, he also disclosed that the NEC will convene shortly to formally recommend Obi’s expulsion, which would then be approved at the party’s national convention.
“The NEC makes the recommendation and the convention gives final approval when we want to expel any member who acts against our constitution,” Arabambi said.
“Therefore, Obi is no longer a member of the Labour Party and will be expelled from our party.”
