Lawmakers from the state’s Otukpo Local Government Area have been instructed by the Benue State Government to halt any additional measures against Council Chairman Maxwell Ogiri.
Sam Ode, the deputy governor of Benue State, issued the order to halt all proceedings against the chairman taken by the Otukpo Executive Council and the Otukpo Legislative Council.
Ode ordered the local government to maintain the status quo ante during this time, according to a statement made by the Chief Press Secretary to Deputy Governor Ior Ikyereve.
The Deputy Governor has invited the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary, and Honorable Councillors of Otukpo Local Government Area to a meeting at Government House, Makurdi, on Monday, July 14, 2025, by 12 p.m., according to the announcement.
“The Chairman has been instructed to take the necessary actions to prevent any breach of security in the local government area, and all parties are advised to strictly adhere to this directive.”
As you may remember, Otukpo LGA lawmakers recently accused Chairman Ogiri of financial impropriety and requested that the State Assembly suspend him from office so that a thorough investigation could be carried out.
