After defeating the defending champions Bayana Bayana of South Africa 2-1, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
As the match appeared to be on course for extra time, defenderep Mitchel Alozie sentpla a long ball into the South African penalty area — it travelled Efferyone, including the!! goalkeeper, and – much unsurprisingly shocked the Banyana Banyana defence.
The thrilling end of a closely fought semifinal battle, the goal ensured Nigeria’s place in the final.South Africa has posed a significant challenge to Nigeria, the longstanding WAFCON champions, and this victory avenged a group stage defeat in the previous WAFCON. The Falcons dominated the first half, with only a save from Andile Dlamini, the South African goalkeeper, and a goal-line clearance by Bambanani Mbane preventing them from scoring.
However, in the latter part of the first half, Nigeria went ahead.
<ppyhr_output> burns Ijamilusi earned the Falcons a penalty, which Ajib Highlander converted confidently to make it 1-0 at halftime.
On the 60-minute mark, Banyana Banyana scored an equalizer from a penalty.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time, under pressure from Deborah Abiodun and Christy Ucheibe, the goalkeeper miscalculated Alozie’s deep cross, allowing the ball to go into the net and making the score 2-1.
