According to the BBC, Manchester United is apparently thinking about making a summer bid for Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha.
With a £62.5 million release clause in his contract, Matheus Cunha is expected to depart Molineux at the end of the current campaign.
With just five clubs scoring fewer goals than United’s 38 in 33 Premier League games this season, the 25-year-old Brazilian striker has surfaced as a possible alternative to strengthen the team’s attack.
With 16 goals in all competitions, Cunha leads Wolves in scoring and is a good match for head coach Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
Other Premier League teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle, who are all trying to bolster their attacking lines, will compete with United, though.
Despite his impressive scoring record, concerns have arisen regarding Matheus Cunha’s disciplinary issues, as he has been sent off twice this season, missing six matches due to suspension.
In a recent interview, Cunha expressed his desire to “take the next step” in his career and compete for titles.
United’s plans for next season are complicated by financial uncertainties. Winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League could net them an additional £100 million, while staying in their current 14th position could cost them around £24 million.
Amorim promised supporters that a strategy is in place to improve the team after a poor home loss to Wolves, but major changes might not occur until the summer.
