The presidency has accused former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of double standards in his stance on negotiations with bandits.
In a post on X on Monday, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga referred to El-Rufai as a “master of ambivalence.”
He claimed that the former governor once spearheaded the payment of bandits in order to restore peace but now opposes such measures for political reasons.
“Malam Nasir EL-Rufai is the master of ambivalence,” he declared. He once encouraged and spearheaded the practice of paying bandits to appease them. Today, he opposes it for political reasons.
According to BASEMEDIA, El-Rufai has publicly criticized the Bola Tinubu administration in recent weeks for its handling of insecurity, specifically for refusing to engage in talks with bandits and terrorists.
Reactions to his remarks were mixed, with the government accusing him of spreading lies. According to the Tinubu administration, it has always insisted that it will not give the bandits ransom.
