Journalists under the platform of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council have appealed to the state police command to find and prosecute the killers of one of their colleagues, Ojo Peter.
The union issued this declaration in a statement signed by its acting Chairman, Olusola Oladapo.
The statement was made available to BASEMEDIA on Tuesday night. Peter, a former reporter for Parrot Extra and the Daily Monitor, was shot during a daylight robbery on the Molete-Oke Ado axis in Ibadan on August 18th. According to our correspondent, this has sparked numerous questions and concerns among state journalists.
In the statement, Oladapo charged the police with determining the cause of the deceased’s death.
The acting Chairman insisted on a comprehensive investigation into the journalist’s murder.
“The news of Ojo Peter’s recent death in Ibadan by suspected armed robbers saddens the union,” the statement read.
Around 2:00 p.m. on August 18, 2025, the attack took place in Ibadan, Oyo State, along the Molete-Oke Ado axis.
According to sources, Ojo Peter was shot in the back after being robbed of his cross bag, even though he begged the robbers that the bag didn’t contain any cash.
“We implore the state police command to find the journalist’s killers.”
