The Jigawa State Government has authorized the distribution of N1,547,614,974.00 to 22,388 students enrolled in various postsecondary educational institutions as their bursary allowance.
This was revealed by Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmad, the State Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, during a press briefing on the State Executive Council meeting’s conclusion on Tuesday.
His Excellency’s strategic agenda to promote access to high-quality education, lessen financial strain on parents, and enable Jigawa’s youth to achieve academic and professional success is being carried out through the bursary allowance program.
He clarified that the authorized sum is being used to cover the registration fees for 22,388 students enrolled in 83 postsecondary educational institutions nationwide.
He said, “The Council has approved the disbursement of bursary allowances to eligible Jigawa State indigenes studying in various tertiary institutions in the sum of One Billion, Five Hundred and Forty-Seven Million, Six Hundred and Fourteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Four Naira (N1,547,614,974.00) only, in line with His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement and the development of human capital in Jigawa State.”
“A total of 22,388 students currently enrolled in 83 tertiary institutions within and outside Jigawa State are expected to benefit from this.”
The administration’s inclusive approach to supporting educational aspirations across gender-deserving beneficiaries for the 2024/2025 Academic Session is reflected in the approval, which covered 13,622 male and 8,766 female students, according to Hon. Sagir.
His Excellency Governor Umar Namadi launched the bursary allowance program to help parents who are struggling financially as a result of the country’s higher education institutions raising their registration fees.
There were concerns that many students who couldn’t afford the fees might have to drop out of school as a result of the fee increase.
