Prior to Friday’s Group C 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zimbabwe, South Africa suffered a significant blow when star player Relebohile Mofokeng was sidelined. Head coach Hugo Broos disclosed this information at his press conference on Monday. In order to replace Mofokeng, Broos has now called up midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala. “We substituted Shabalala for him,” he stated. “Secondly, two players—Lyle Foster and Sphephelo Sithole—have not shown up because they played on Sunday.” With 14 points deducted by FIFA, South Africa is now in second place in Group CNext week, they will play Rwanda in their last qualifying match.
