Troops prevent attack in Taraba, seize weapons and motorcycles

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have foiled an attack in Ibi, Taraba State, recovering five dane guns and two motorcycles abandoned by fleeing assailants.

Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, stated that the success followed credible intelligence on the bandits’ approach from the forest.

“On 9 October 2025, troops at Tapga Ngasawa Village received reliable information from locals around Majebiyu Village in Ibi Local Government Area that armed men, suspected to be bandits, had invaded the community, firing shots, destroying property, and taking motorcycles and other valuables,” he said.

The troops quickly mobilized and engaged the assailants, who fled into a nearby bush upon seeing the advancing soldiers, reportedly sustaining possible gunshot wounds.

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism, courage, and swift response, reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to recovering illegal arms and preventing their use in criminal activities within the state and surrounding areas.

The Nigerian Army urged the public to remain law-abiding and continue providing credible, timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across Taraba State.
