President Bola Tinubu’s pardon of Ken Saro-Wiwa and other Nigerians is a significant move toward reconciliation and justice, Comrade Matthew Dighi, a Niger Delta leader, has said.
BASEMEDIA reports that on Thursday, President Tinubu granted pardon to 175 Nigerians, including members of the Ogoni 9 and Ogoni 4, prominently featuring the late Saro-Wiwa.
In a statement released Friday morning, Comrade Dighi, Chairman of the Central Working Committee, 2025 All Nigerian Ethnic Nationalities Youth Conference and 30th Anniversary of Ken Saro-Wiwa, alongside Secretary Mazi Chidiebere Nwodo, Esq., expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the honour.
The group described the pardon as “a significant step toward reconciliation and justice for many whose voices have been silenced unjustly.”
The youth organizations also voiced support for the proposed National Forest Guards initiative.
“We commend the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his proposal to establish Forest Guards. This initiative represents a proactive approach to strengthening national security and addressing issues of crime and kidnapping in our forests. We, the youth of Nigeria, stand firmly behind this initiative and pledge our commitment to the safety of our communities,” they stated.
Regarding the Ken Saro-Wiwa 30th anniversary, they noted that after consultations with stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and Ogoni community leaders, the 2025 All Nigerian Ethnic Nationalities Youth Conference and the 30th Anniversary of Ken Saro-Wiwa has been rescheduled to November 7, 2025.
Dighi warned the public to disregard any announcements claiming the event would hold on October 10, 2025, emphasizing that no individual or group has authorization to organize it on any other date.
He urged security agencies to remain vigilant against impostors and unauthorized events.
