Activist and public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has urged Nigerians to expose public officials using fake academic certificates to occupy positions in government and the private sector.
In a statement shared on X, Shehu said many individuals with forged credentials hold powerful offices, deceiving the public and undermining Nigeria’s progress.
He stressed that the presence of certificate forgers in leadership positions contributes to the country’s stagnation, as such people often commit additional crimes to conceal their fraudulent acts.
Shehu called on citizens to submit credible evidence of forgery to journalists or investigative organisations, saying it was time to start naming and shaming those involved.
He also claimed to possess forged documents belonging to three serving House of Representatives members, two senators, and a governor from the North West who allegedly submitted fake certificates to INEC during the 2019 and 2023 elections.
Shehu appealed to Nigerians to conduct a “credentials audit” of their political representatives and public officeholders, insisting that the results would expose widespread deceit and help clean up the nation’s governance system.
