The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Benue South Senatorial District recorded a significant boost on Saturday, October 11, 2025, following the defection of several prominent politicians from other parties, including the NNPP, APC, ADC, and LP, to the PDP in Ogoli-Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area.
Leading the defectors was Chief Barr. Isaac Oduh, former NNPP senatorial candidate, who, alongside hundreds of his supporters, announced their decision to join the PDP. He attributed the move to the visionary and inclusive leadership style of Senator Dr. Abba Moro, Senate Minority Leader and representative of Benue South.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Chief Oduh explained that their choice was motivated by a desire to follow a leader committed to service and the welfare of the people. He said Senator Moro’s leadership exemplifies politics of service rather than self-interest, adding that the PDP remains the most organized and people-focused party in both Benue and Nigeria.
Benue State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Chief Ezekiel Adaji, welcomed the new members, assuring them of equal opportunities and full integration into the party. He commended Senator Moro for uniting stakeholders across Zone C and noted that the mass defection reflected PDP’s growing influence in the state.
Rt. Hon. Michael Audu, Member representing Adoka/Ugboju in the Benue State House of Assembly and former Minority Leader, applauded the defectors for making a wise decision, emphasizing that the PDP is a political home for all who believe in progress.
Senator Abba Moro expressed delight at the development, describing the mass defection as a demonstration of renewed confidence in the PDP. He assured the newcomers of equal treatment and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive representation and empowerment programs.
The defection event also featured the distribution of wheelchairs to persons living with disabilities across the nine LGAs of Benue South (Zone C). While presenting the items, Senator Moro emphasized that “there is ability in disability,” reiterating his dedication to supporting all citizens regardless of their challenges.
Addressing party members, Senator Moro urged aspirants from Adoka/Ugboju to maintain unity, stressing that PDP’s success in 2027 depends on internal cooperation and peace. He called for humility and collaboration among members and condemned the continued marginalization of Zone C in federal appointments and infrastructure development, urging authorities to ensure equity and inclusion.
The event was attended by several PDP leaders, including Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji, Rt. Hon. Michael Audu, Hon. Isaac Ochekiye, Hon. Alice Albert (PDP Women Leader), Rt. Hon. Solomon Onah, Hon. Edor Ogbole, Hon. Amina Audu, Hon. Emmanuel Adokwu, Hon. Charles Onoja, Hon. Mohammed Adama, and Hon. Stephen Akatu, among others.
