In an effort to find common ground on the ongoing tariff war, the United States and the People’s Republic of China have resumed talks. According to Naija News, President Donald Trump of the United States imposed 145 percent tariffs on Chinese goods entering the United States and 125 percent tariffs on American products entering China in response to his complaints that his country has been treated unfairly by its allies, including China. On Wednesday, President Trump told reporters that talks with China are “active.”
Trump promised that the United States would reach a fair agreement with China in a press conference following his walk on the White House’s North Lawn.
Our agreement with China will be equitable. Fairness will prevail. It’s all going on. Everyone is eager to join us in our endeavors.
He stated that although they are aware that they can no longer get away with it, they will still succeed and we will have a nation of which you can be proud.
Guo Jiakun, the spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, stated during a press conference on Wednesday that the agreement between Beijing and Washington about the tariff war would be founded on equality and respect.
The United States started this tariff war. Although we have stated unequivocally that China does not seek out conflict, we are also not scared of it. If we have to fight, we will. “If the United States wants to talk, our doors are open,” he stated.
The United States should seek discussion with China instead of threatening it, Jiakun said.
“The United States should cease threatening and blackmailing China and pursue dialogue based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit if a negotiated solution is really what it wants.”
“It is not the proper way to deal with China and will not work to keep asking for a deal while applying tremendous pressure,” he continued.
