Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former presidential adviser, has urged President Bola Tinubu to abandon his 2027 reelection campaign.
According to Naija News, Baba-Ahmed encouraged Tinubu to think about resigning in favor of a new generation of Nigerians who can lead the country with new ideas and vitality in a statement given to journalists on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
He maintained that Tinubu’s greatest chance of making a respectable political exit would be to resign and let younger people take over.
“Set aside—not for your opponents, but for a new generation of Nigerians who can bring new ideas and vitality to the country,” he remarked.
“You possess what your opponents do not: the ability to lessen the hardships faced by the typical Nigerian. Make good use of it. Sure, watch 2027, but don’t let it dominate you.
Don’t Lose Governance Momentum Chasing 2027 Baba-Ahmed also cautioned President Tinubu against putting his political aspirations for 2027 before of governance, emphasizing that doing so might cause him to lose both popular support and governance momentum.
Baba-Ahmed claims Tinubu might spend four more years perpetuating failure if he wins the 2027 election without changing his approach and manner.
“Two years is a long time—you can still accomplish a lot,” he continued. However, you run the risk of losing both the momentum of government and the support of the public if you turn your focus now to election goals.
“You might spend four more years maintaining failure if you win again without changing your approach and manner. “Your legacy could be erased in an instant if you lose,” he cautioned.
“Under the strain of economic hardship, instability, and estrangement, the North is straying from your leadership. While the South-South is divided, the East is still politically disengaged.
