The Chief of the Mutum Biyu Chiefdom in Taraba State, Alhaji Sani Suleiman Muhammed, urged security agencies, vigilante groups, and local hunters to work together more closely to fight crime in his area and the entire state.
He made this appeal on Wednesday after receiving an appointment letter naming him the National Patrol Officer of the National Vigilante Group. The group’s National Secretary, Yusuf Sarkin Baka, presented the letter, stating the honor recognized the Chief’s dedication to protecting his community.
Sarkin Baka praised the Chief’s active role in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes, noting that his strong collaboration with security forces had brought relative peace back to the once troubled area.
Expressing his gratitude, the Chief said the new position would motivate him to step up his efforts to secure his domain. He also commended all the security stakeholders for their work across the state and country, again stressing the need for better teamwork.
“Don’t view the vigilantes and hunters as rivals. See them as partners working with you to address security challenges,” he told security operatives.
Furthermore, he instructed all district and village heads in his chiefdom to carefully track the movement of strangers and suspicious people. He emphasized that traditional rulers have a crucial duty to ensure that criminals cannot use local forests and remote areas as hideouts.
The Chief concluded that only through collective vigilance and coordination among all parties involved in security can communities remain safe from the threat of crime.
