A former commissioner advises Abia lawmaker to resign immediately due to a suspected broken head.

John Okiyi Kalu, the former Abia State Commissioner for Information, insists that Abia State House of Assembly member Stephen Ucheonye Akachukwu sustained a head injury requiring stitches during a physical fight with Majority Leader Uchenna Okoro Kalu.
Okiyi Kalu issued a statement on Wednesday asserting that the circulating images and videos showing Akachukwu’s injured head are real, not fabricated using AI.
He alleged that Akachukwu lied to the people of Abia State by denying the altercation and called for his resignation. Okiyi Kalu claimed that Akachukwu “brazenly lied” and is “still carrying the stitching scars” from the August 2025 incident in Aba.
Regarding the cause of the fight, Okiyi Kalu alleged that Akachukwu started the altercation by throwing his drink at Okoro Kalu during a Labour Party caucus meeting. He further clarified that the injury was inflicted not with a beer bottle, but with a whisky glass cup.
Challenging the denial of the incident, Okiyi Kalu stated that Akachukwu himself allegedly took the photos and videos and sent them to Governor Alex Otti. He then questioned whether Akachukwu would have sent “AI generated pictures to the Governor?”
The former Commissioner challenged Akachukwu to be examined by selected members of the Nigerian Medical Association and the press to verify the head injury and stitches, adding that it was wrong to accuse the State’s opposition of posting AI-generated content.
