The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has formally established a caretaker executive committee tasked with managing the party’s operations until new leaders are elected.
The inauguration was overseen by David Lawal Babachir, the North East Zonal Vice Chairman of the ADC and a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under the Buhari administration. Babachir stated that the interim team was formed through an agreement among stakeholders to bring stability to the party and ready it for the 2027 general elections.
He clarified that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had approved the new structure after consultation and confirmation of compliance with the ADC constitution. Babachir stressed the legitimacy of the new leadership, asserting that it followed due process, and warned that defiance or indiscipline would not be tolerated.
He also mentioned that the ADC’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, has reinforced the party’s commitment to its constitution, warning that those who oppose its principles are not welcome in the ADC. Babachir urged members to maintain harmony, noting that while politicians should expect criticism, it should not affect their character or dedication to the party.
Barrister Sadiq Dasin, the new interim chairman, delivered an acceptance speech where he thanked the party leaders for their trust. The former federal lawmaker and past Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly pledged to unify the party and prioritize the involvement of women and youth.
Dasin described his assumption of office as “a child of necessity” and appealed to all dissatisfied members for their support. He promised that “60 percent of elective positions in the forthcoming congresses will be reserved for women and youth because of their vital role in our success.” He concluded by committing to ensuring that all future congresses in the state are transparent, fair, and credible.
